2003.07.22–Frederick, Maryland. Diane sent this in. She found it on her table when she returned from her vacation.
Day 1–Tuesday - 7:30 pm lights off on fish tank - not sure why - hope it’s ok.
Khloe in HEAVEN feeding/ loving the chickens. Made Sean put them away last night because we stayed late painting at Nancy’s. Would pay $ to see him chasing the chickens! :)
Sure hope you are having fun! We miss you already!
Just had to run back in to report chicken conspiracy! I went out and one had found the cardboard box - it was perched on top looking at the top of the fence while the other 3 circled the bottom, “bawking” their encouragement! Jail break in the works! When I said “oh no you don’t” and threw the box over the fence - the four of them skulked off in a clump giving me the “hairy eyeball” They are PLOTTING!! :-)
Day 2–Wednesday - hot, hot, hot! Sean tried to get chickens in around 5:30 last night before we left for Urbana Carnival - no luck - so FUNNY - love the “dance” between Sean and chickens. He finally said, (the good farm boy he is!) “They are chickens - they will have to go to roost at dark!” Sure enough we return from carnival at dark and they were all snug in coop!! Lots of rain & storms - door is swelled again - tight to open and close. Yet all is good!! We are loving our chicken job and laughing a lot! Hope you’re safe in the storms.
Day 3–Thursday - My friend Martha arrived for a beer last evening and I said, “come help me get the chickens”. You should have SEEN the look on her face!!! :-) Her response - “Chickens?!? REAL chickens?!?” It was hilarious! She even caught one! She was scared at first then oh so proud of herself! Chickens are great - don’t seem to be eating much grain but loving juicy Bugs. Fish tank seems a little cloudy? We’ve been very careful to stick to 2 pinches only so not sure what’s going on. Maybe I’m seeing things! All the “bubble things” seem to be running. Can’t wait to hear all about your trip tomorrow!
Day 4–Friday - got message - praying hard - could you feel it? will talk soon. Chickens are great! So affectionate!! I think they are actually missing you all!
We’re learned to leave them out all day then they put themselves away at dusk. All we have to do is love ’em and lock the door - no more chasing! :-) Gone to Grandma’s for party. Will be back at bedtime if you want to come talk. If not I’ll see you in the morning!
Missed you!
love, Heather
PS Just set feed bucket down and can’t find it! In a rush - sorry! It’s right here somewhere. Chickens following me like little dogs - so lonely!
Happy Birthday! No idea what time the flowers came - pretty.
