2005.09.05–Alfred, Ohio. This morning I remembered a dream that I had last night. This is a dream or more properly at least two dreams. Let me describe it and then we will analyze it. I was with several people that I knew (don’t know who, could have been family, friends, or people I work with) and I told them about lights I had seen in the sky. This is a bit odd because I now recall having a dream sometime back about seeing a few lights in the sky but had never been conscious of it till now. I was describing this other dream to the people I was with as though it were a real event.
We looked up at the sky and there were hundreds if not thousands of lights now. Most were small like stars or satellites. Most were moving. Some were stationery. There were some moving much faster, accelerating from near stop to amazing speed and often at angles. Some were much larger (say fifty times the size of a single light) that were in shapes and not just larger blobs of light. I didn’t pay attention to the shapes themselves as the whole spectacle was too surreal to contemplate. I had the impression of a battle or invasion taking place.
The next scene in my dream is of me walking along a road trying to get home realizing that I had little chance of making it should the lights in the sky decide to take interest in me. That is all that I remember. I didn’t wake up during the dream, all of this just came to my consciousness about an hour or so after waking up this morning.
NOTES: It is very unusual for me to recall a previous dream like this. Particularly one that I didn’t ever recall to begin with. The dream seems completely out of context with what my conscious thoughts are. We have enjoyed a very nice long weekend working very hard in the yard and well top. My thoughts have been focused on the task at hand or recent events such as hurricane Katrina, gas prices, and such. I’ve not seen or thought of Star Wars recently or any other movie or book that would get me thinking along those lines. Perhaps this is just a vision of events yet to come.
My long distant past may offer some clues but it seems a stretch to me to think that the accumulation of odd things over the years could suddenly pop into the unconscious mind. For what it is worth, here are a few real events which may be contributing factors. If you know of a dream specialist or someone who can interpret dreams, I’d be curious to know what they think.
2005.07.25. Alfred, Ohio. I saw a satellite and knew what I was looking at. This was real, not a dream. It moved very fast and would explain one or maybe two of the lights that I saw on March 11, 2004. They were very similar in appearance and speed. NOTES: this is my first rational explanation for what I have seen in the skies these past forty five years.
2004.03.11. Cincinnati, Ohio. I saw three lights in the sky. This was real, not a dream. The first one caught my eye. I realized immediately that it was too fast for a plane and too slow for a shooting star. I quickly realized it had to be a satellite. How neat I thought. The second light followed directly behind the first. I recall thinking “I didn’t realize that satellites tracked so close together”. Before that thought was complete, a third light appeared and is what troubled me. It tracked back from the other two and slightly off to one side. Within moments each had vanished. NOTES: today, I know that the first two could have been the space station and a shuttle catching up or departing from it. The third light is still mysterious to ponder. When I originally wrote this, it was over a year before I knew what a satellite really looked like.
1980’s. Alfred, Ohio. Jeanie saw lights in the late 80’s coming home from school one night. I recall she was still scared when she got home. This was real, not a dream. NOTES: At various times over the years too many people I know and trust have seen things that are not easy to explain. Bim and his kids saw something once back in the 50’s or 60’s. A fellow I work with was followed for miles by a light once. I saw something, Jeanie saw something, you get the idea. A lot of people really do see strange things in the sky.
1959–1960. Route 28, Goshen, Ohio. I’m no longer certain of the year but know it was either 59 or 60. This was real, not a dream. I saw lights up in the sky from our front yard. If you put me back in the yard today I could easily point to the location in the sky they appeared to me. They behaved in ways that lights in the sky never had in my experience to that point. They turned at odd angles and moved at impossible speeds. Rather than being amused or interested in what I was seeing, I was terrified and ran into the house after only a moment or two. I think my brother Dennis may recall this event and may have seen them himself. NOTES: we were at the height of the cold war back then and Russia had tested the hydrogen bomb. That was a lot for a little fellow to ponder but may have had some influence on what I think I saw.
1957. Loveland – Branch Hill, Ohio. Sputnik flew by. I remember seeing and hearing it on the radio. This was real, not a dream.
