Rules for writing in public

Soooo… you have finally decided to launch a blog. Congratulations! Your journey to self enlightenment has already begun. To assist you from stumbling over some of the same hurdles I have, permit me to offer a few words of guidance.

Rule #1–Be careful of what you say.

You may safely assume that everything you write will be read by:

  1. your grandparents,
  2. your parents,
  3. your spouse,
  4. your siblings,
  5. your friends,
  6. your enemies,
  7. your children,
  8. your grandchildren,
  9. your employeer,
  10. and an attorney who is willing to file suit against you.

Rule #2–Be careful of providing personal information.

You may safely assume that all personal info you provide about yourself or another will be used in an evil manner.

  • Provide your email address, someone will spam you.
  • Provide your real address, someone will rob you.
  • Provide your credit card info, someone will be you.
  • Provide a photo of your lovely young niece or nephew and where they attend school, someone will stalk them.

Rule #3–Be careful of using photographs and graphics of others.

You may safely assume that your family and friends will not appreciate seeing that funny or embarassing photo of themselves in public.

You may safely assume that if you use photos or clip art without permission, you will someday be paying royalties and/or fines to strangers and attorneys.
