Movie Reviews
2006.01.01–Alfred, Ohio. Everybody can be a critic with the Internet, even me.
Gridiron Gang
2006.10.11. Athena Grande, Athens. OK, but exactly what was expected.
Invincible
2006.09.02. Athena Grande, Athens. OK, but exactly what was expected. The ending was a little weak. None of the actors were familiar to me. One that I thought did a nice job was the owner of the bar. He just looked the part to me and he portrayed it pretty well.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
2006.07.15. Movies Ten, Nelsonville. Good, but exactly what was expected. Each played their characters well but we already know the characters. Remember Shrek? When Shrek II came out they added the pussy cat with the accent and attitude. That added a whole new character and improved on an already good story. I didn’t see much of that in Pirates. Davy Jones was new but more a distraction than a character. The mean new military guy was a little relief. I suppose the voodoo woman was the best attempt at something new. I’d rather seen one good new character that added to the story in a bigger way than so many smaller ones that didn’t develop much. This was made for money, not for art. Still, it is required viewing.

2006.07.02. Chakeres University Cinema, Morehead, Kentucky. Not great, this was a little less than expected. Not bad mind you, just another Adam Sandler movie.
The Lake House
2006.06.23. Movies Ten, Nelsonville. OK, about what was expected. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are both enjoyable to watch. The ending was odd but I can’t easily think of how else the story could have ended.
The DaVinci Code
2006.06.02. Athena Grande, Athens. This one was a pleasant surprise to me. It was more enjoyable to watch than I thought it would be. The book was a disappointment to me mostly because I expected more codes and twists than there was. The movie turned out better for me partially because my expectations were pretty low.
Mission Impossible 3
2006.05.28. Movies Ten, Nelsonville. OK, about what was expected.
Elizabethtown
2006.02.25. DVD-Rental. OK, leaning towards good. This was just what you think it would be. Tonight, that is just what we wanted. I wasn’t embarrassed to watch it with my son and daughter-n-law, it wasn’t violent, no one dies except Mitch, it was not vulgar…it helped make for an enjoyable evening. Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst were the stars, Bruce McGill was also a familiar face.
Freedomland
2006.02.24. Movies Ten, Nelsonville. OK, about what was expected. The hat on Samuel L. Jackson struck me funny.
Lord Of War
2006.01.27. DVD. Another Nicolas Cage movie, not really my cup of tea. I enjoyed watching it but only because of those present with me and the surroundings (a college dorm room).
Walk The Line
2006.01.23. Regal Cinema 7, Marietta. This was good. I am becoming a fan of Reese Witherspoon. Besides being a good actor, she can sing.
Blue Eyed
2006.01.10. VHS. This was a very interesting movie that I saw at work as a member of our diversity committee. Jane Elliott is the one that conducted the famous blue eye/brown eye classroom experiments with children beginning in 1968. This film shows what she does today in her diversity workshops.
The Italian Job
2006.01.08. DVD-Rental. This was a fun movie. Good entertainment.
Batman Begins
2006.01.06. DVD-Rental. I’ve seen most if not all of the other Batman movies at one time or other. This one was one of the better ones. I enjoyed it.
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
2006.01.04. DVD-Rental. Based on a book that has a near cult following. I suppose it would be considered science fiction but seemed pointless to me. A depressed robot named Marvin was funny and the only saving grace of this movie for me.
Crash
2005. TV-Rental. A bit different. Foul language. It is supposed to be about race. I didn’t get it.
Harry Potter
2005. Movies Ten, Nelsonville. OK, about what was expected
Zorro
