Well, it's now May. Dave has been silent on this blog for a few months. He was sick again and that set him back to the beginning again. Now that he is healthy, there are some issues with priorities. Running/training takes time away from other things. He told me he was finalizing house plans and I know how important that is to him. The Half training program I picked really starts in June. I'm hoping that with the base he was able to build over the past 5-6 months he will be able to re-establish himself more quickly.

There is also the challenge in his attitude. He is downhearted about his consistency or the lack of...I believe that's how he put it. We have lunch scheduled for Monday (5/17) and I'm not letting him out of it. We haven't talked in depth since I saw him looking so discouraged. I'm very interested in why it seems so insurmountable now. I'm wondering if the solitude and running on the treadmill is taking it's toll. I've wanted him to get out on the road for a while now. Running outside is so much more enjoyable at least for me plus he needs to become accustomed to the harder surface. I guess we will see what Monday brings...

Had not checked on Dave for several weeks and didn't realize just how sick he was. It will be starting over but we still have plenty of time.

Tried to assure Dave that the first few minutes always seem like a struggle and then you settle into a rythm. I don't know why it is but most folks I know will agree.

I was afraid of this. I'm hoping this is just one of those aberration that happens to runners....All of a sudden something hurts that didn't before and it goes away the next time you run. Erroring on the cautious side (I've never been responsible for someone else before), had Dave dig out his old shoes for the next time just to get back to square one (I hope).

I had to smile as we looked at various shoes in Dorsey's shop. It was apparent that Dave had NEVER spent so much time looking for a new pair of shoes in his life. It was challenging to get him to try them on and LEAVE them on for more than a few minutes. I also couldn't seem to get him to try running in them up and back in the parking lot to see how they would do. He settled on a pair and I have my fingers crossed there won't be any issues.
