R-8 miles.
Skipped the Thursday 4 mile run because I wanted to be strong for this run. I think it worked out well. My knees got sore again but not so bad as after 7. I started out strong for about 2 miles then the pain started again. I know that I’ve ran 6 miles before without this pain so started adjusting the way I was running to see if it made any difference. I’d land more toward the heal for a few minutes, more toward to ball of my foot for a few minutes, this way, that way, anything I could think of that might make a difference. That kept me distracted for a mile or two. I finally settled on lifting my legs a slightly higher than before and that seemed to provide the most relief.
One other psychological trick I pulled on myself. I only went 3 miles out and then back thinking that I’d stop at 6 miles if need be. By then, the leg lifting made it bearable and I ran past the truck a mile and back giving me the 8 I needed. Knowing that I could stop and be near the truck helped.
I was able to move around pretty well after the run but took the precaution of putting ice on my knees again. Feeling pretty good as I write this the next morning.
R-3.5 miles, W-0.5 miles. Was supposed to run 4. Felt good before I started but after two miles decided to walk a bit a quarter mile. Ran another mile and a half then walked the last quarter mile. Knees were still troubling me.
R-7.25 miles, W 1.25 miles.
This one hurt. I didn’t train properly during the week (was busy and skipped two workouts.) Ran Sunday after dinner rather than Saturday morning. I knew after just a couple of miles that this one was different. Six miles the week before didn’t phase me much. After three or four this time I wanted to quit but pressed on.
The run itself wasn’t so bad. Once I stopped moving, my knees and/or muscles around them hurt. Walking was difficult and painful. I tossed and turned in bed without much sleep due to the pain. Monday night, I iced them down and that helped a lot. Should have done it immediately but didn’t know until coach suggested it.
R-5.25 mi, W-1.25 mi
The run was 63 minutes, the walk 27.
